Mini / Junior Rugby

At Worcester, in common with most English Rugby Union clubs, we follow the "continuum" devised by the RFU for mini and junior rugby. This is a comprehensive guide designed to ensure that rugby skills are introduced to children in a safe and structured way. It also means that, hopefully, in matches all sides are playing by the same rules and have the correct attitude for the game.

In this age group a team is made up of 15 players, eight of whom will be the forwards, and form the scrum. Lineouts will be formed with between 2 and 7 players, and the additional player throws the ball in. In addition, kicking the ball is introduced, and all kick-offs and restarts will take the form of a drop kick. Once a try has been scored a conversion attempt is taken to try to add on the additional two points. All kicking is allowed, from hand, flyhacking.”

As the children are learning new skills, matches form part of the training sessions, and the emphasis is on mastering the skills rather than on being competitive. Matches last 30 minutes each way, or 20 minutes each way in the case of triangulars.

As part of the continuum, the RFU have produced a code of conduct for players and parents, to ensure that the game is learnt with the best attitudes - we ask that all players and spectators abide by the code.
